Comedy   United States of America

As David Portnoy and his best friends, Timmy and Peter, embark on their road trip, their main goal is to capture photographic evidence of a supposedly extinct duck species called the Labrador Duck. The boys believe that if they find and photograph this bird, they will not only solidify their place in birding history but also honor David's late mother, a passionate birder.

Their journey takes them across different states and landscapes, encountering various bird species and eccentric characters along the way. They meet Ellen, a young and knowledgeable birding enthusiast who joins them on their adventure. Alongside her, they learn valuable birding techniques, study field guides, and listen to bird calls, becoming even more invested in their pursuit.

However, as they delve deeper into their mission, the boys face challenges and setbacks. They encounter skeptical experts who doubt the existence of the Labrador Duck and dismiss their claims. David's father also becomes increasingly concerned about his son's obsession, fearing that he is neglecting his academic and social life. Additionally, the trio faces their own personal struggles, including Timmy's battle with leukemia and Peter's strained relationship with his strict father.

Despite the obstacles, the friends remain determined. With the support of Ellen and guidance from Lawrence Konrad, a respected ornithologist who becomes their mentor, they gain more knowledge and insights into birding. Along the way, they develop a stronger bond and learn valuable life lessons about friendship, perseverance, and the meaning of family.

As their trip reaches its climax, the friends finally spot what they believe to be the elusive Labrador Duck. Filled with excitement and anticipation, they capture breathtaking photographs, becoming hopeful that their discovery will inspire the world and bring attention to bird conservation efforts.

Back home, David presents the evidence to the birding community, who, initially skeptical, eventually validate the authenticity of their photographs. The boys are celebrated as young environmental heroes, receiving national recognition for their significant find. David's father, initially disapproving, realizes the importance of his son's passion and supports his newfound success.

In the end, A Birder's Guide to Everything portrays the transformative power of a shared passion for birding, as well as the captivating journey of self-discovery, friendship, and resilience that the characters experience along the way.
