As the movie progresses, Sam, portrayed by actor Anders Danielsen Lie, tries to navigate his new reality as the sole survivor in a zombie-apocalypse-ridden Paris. He quickly realizes that the zombies are attracted to noise and movement, which makes survival and communication with anyone outside his apartment building exponentially more challenging.

Sam searches the building for supplies and fortifies his living space, using furniture and various items to block doors and windows. He also sets up a system of warning signals to detect any possible zombie presence nearby. Amidst the isolation and fear, Sam succumbs to loneliness and despair.

One day, while exploring the other apartments, Sam discovers a young woman named Sarah, played by Golshifteh Farahani, who managed to hide from the zombies by locking herself in one of the rooms. Sam is both relieved and overjoyed to find another survivor, and they quickly form a bond.

Together, Sam and Sarah devise strategies to remain undetected by the undead hordes. They scavenge for supplies and food in nearby apartments, always on high alert for any signs of approaching zombies. They also engage in conversations about their lives before the zombie outbreak, finding solace in sharing their stories and memories.

As time passes, Sam becomes increasingly frustrated with the monotony of their situation. In an attempt to break free from his emotional strain, he discovers a drum set in one of the apartments and starts practicing, finding a brief reprieve from the bleak reality around them. However, the noise attracts the attention of the zombies, causing Sam to question his actions and the consequences they may have on both their safety.

As their days in seclusion wear on, tensions arise between Sam and Sarah, resulting in arguments and disagreements about their circumstances and survival strategies. Their relationship becomes strained, and they question whether their connection is genuine or merely a product of their dire circumstances.

The film explores themes of isolation, survival, and the human capacity for hope amidst adversity. It portrays Sam's internal struggle to accept his situation while battling his own fears and emotions, all the while questioning whether there is any reason to continue living in a world overrun by the living dead.

The Night Eats the World offers a unique take on the zombie genre, focusing on the psychological toll of isolation rather than the usual action-packed survival narrative.
