Rustom is a Bollywood film released in 2016 and inspired by real events that took place in Mumbai, India, in 1959. The movie revolves around the life of Naval Commander Rustom Pavri, played by Akshay Kumar.

Set against the backdrop of a close-knit naval community, Rustom returns home from his naval duties to find out about his wife Cynthia's (played by Ileana D'Cruz) extramarital affair with Vikram Makhija (played by Arjan Bajwa), a wealthy businessman. Heartbroken and full of rage, Rustom confronts Cynthia about her affair, leading to a heated argument and their eventual separation. Rustom's life is shattered, as he believed in their sacred union and had always been a dutiful and loyal husband.

Driven by immense emotions, Rustom visits Vikram Makhija's residence, where he confronts him about his affair with Cynthia. During their intense altercation, Rustom reaches his breaking point and shoots Vikram, killing him instantly. The murder weapon, a revolver, becomes a critical piece of evidence.

Rustom's actions come as a shock to everyone, including his best friend Vincent Lobo (played by Esha Gupta), who is also a senior police officer investigating the case. Rustom surrenders himself to the police, firmly believing that he did what any husband would do to protect his honor and marriage.

The case goes to court and Rustom is put on trial for murder. His defense lawyer, played by Sachin Khedekar, argues that Rustom acted in the spur of the moment due to extreme emotional distress caused by his wife's infidelity. The courtroom drama intensifies as Rustom maintains his plea of "not guilty," despite clear evidence indicating his involvement in the crime.

The prosecutor, played by Anang Desai, tries his best to prove Rustom's guilt, while the victim's sister, Priti Makhija (played by Esha Gupta), seeks justice for her brother's death. As testimonials and evidence unfold during the trial, it becomes evident that there is more to the case than meets the eye. Secrets, lies, and hidden motivations begin to surface, turning the trial into a complex battle of truth and justice.

Combining elements of courtroom drama, suspense, and romance, Rustom explores themes of honor, loyalty, love, betrayal, and the thirst for justice. The film depicts the struggle of an individual caught between the powerful emotions of love and duty, while exploring the moral ambiguity surrounding the protagonist's actions.
