"The Prom" is a musical comedy film based on the 2018 Broadway musical of the same name. The story follows a group of Broadway actors, whose careers are on the decline, as they seek to revive their public image by solving a controversy in a small town in Indiana.

When news spreads that the conservative Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of Edgewater High School has banned lesbian student Emma Nolan from attending the prom with her girlfriend, Alyssa, a media frenzy ensues. As a result, Emma becomes an unwitting symbol of a larger issue – the lack of acceptance for LGBTQ+ individuals in the community.

In an effort to turn their bad press around and prove their support for inclusivity, four flamboyant Broadway stars – Dee Dee Allen, Barry Glickman, Angie Dickinson, and Trent Oliver – hear about Emma's situation and decide to travel to Edgewater to support her cause. The stars see this as an opportunity to use their star power and bring attention to both Emma's right to attend the prom and the broader issues of intolerance and discrimination.

Upon arriving in Edgewater, the Broadway stars face various challenges. The town's conservative residents are initially resistant to their presence, perceiving them as outsiders intent on enforcing their own agenda. However, as the Broadway stars interact with the locals, especially the students, they start to understand the town's dynamics and confront their own biases.

With their star power and showmanship, the Broadway stars organize a benefit concert to rally support for Emma and the LGBTQ+ community. They also work to change the minds of the town's PTA members and school authorities, attempting to bring them to a place of acceptance and understanding. Through their interactions with the students, they help individuals discover their own truths, encouraging self-acceptance and openness.

Amidst the hilarious and heartwarming chaos, the characters on all sides learn lessons of tolerance, love, and standing up for what is right. As the film progresses, relationships are tested, friendships are formed, and the town of Edgewater slowly transforms, ultimately culminating in a joyous and inclusive prom night where Emma and Alyssa can attend together.

"The Prom" is a celebration of love and acceptance, showcasing the power of unity and understanding. It explores themes of identity, prejudice, and the importance of embracing diversity within a community, all brought to life through catchy musical numbers and sparkling performances.
