In the movie "The Place Promised in Our Early Days," the story is set in an alternate post-war Japan, where the country is divided into two regions: the North, controlled by the Union, and the South, controlled by the United States. Within the borders of the Union, a massive tower called the "Ligare" mysteriously appears, towering over the landscape and capturing the curiosity of its inhabitants.

The plot revolves around three high school students, Hiroki, Takuya, and Sayuri, who become deeply intrigued by the tower and its significance. Determined to uncover its secrets, they form a close friendship and make a promise to build an airplane capable of crossing the border and exploring the tower themselves.

Hiroki, the most intelligent of the group, focuses on designing the aircraft, while Takuya brings his mechanical skills to the project. Sayuri, on the other hand, acts as a link between the two boys, providing emotional support and encouragement.

In their quest to reach the tower, the trio also navigate various personal struggles and relationships. Hiroki harbors feelings for Sayuri, who unknowingly longs for her lost memories of a forgotten love. Meanwhile, Takuya becomes suspicious of the Union's intentions behind the tower's construction.

As their airplane nears completion, the friends uncover a deeper connection between the tower, their own lives, and the divide between the North and the South. The tower acts as a device that can manipulate time and alternate dimensions. Within its walls lies the potential to fulfill their deepest desires and reconcile their pasts.

However, as they finally manage to fly across the border and approach the tower, their journey takes an unexpected turn.
