"What's Love Got to Do with It" is a biographical drama film that depicts the life of iconic singer Tina Turner. The movie begins with a young Anna Mae Bullock, who later becomes known as Tina Turner, living in Nutbush, Tennessee. She dreams of becoming a famous singer and escapes her troubled family life by joining the Kings of Rhythm band led by Ike Turner.

Anna Mae soon catches Ike's attention due to her incredible voice, and he convinces her to change her name to Tina Turner and become the lead vocalist of the band.
