As the story of The North Star unfolds, viewers witness the harrowing escape of Benjamin "Big Ben" Jones and Moses Hopkins from the Virginia plantation where they were enslaved. Faced with the constant threat of slave hunters, the two men risk their lives to reach the safety of Buckingham, Pennsylvania in 1849.

Throughout their journey, Ben's exceptional size, standing at 6 feet 10 inches, and the record bounty placed on his capture make him a prime target for slave hunters on the east coast. This constant danger serves as a backdrop to their experiences, exposing them to unimaginable cruelty but also unexpected acts of kindness from individuals involved in the Underground Railroad.

Upon finding refuge at Mt. Gilead Church on Buckingham Mountain, Ben and Moses finally taste the freedom they have longed for. It is here that they have a chance to rebuild their lives as free men, crossing paths with influential historical figures such as Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, and the abolitionist brothers Joshua and Jonathan Fell.

As they navigate their newfound freedom, Ben and Moses not only face the challenges of adjusting to their new lives but also experience extraordinary situations. They find themselves witnessing acts of heroism, falling in love, and confronting treachery in their pursuit of a better future.

With the backdrop of the Underground Railroad and the courage of those who fought against slavery, The North Star paints a moving picture of resilience, hope, and the transformative power of freedom.
