In the movie Almost Adults, the story revolves around two best friends, Cassie and Mackenzie, who have been inseparable since childhood. However, as they navigate through the challenges of growing up, their relationship begins to strain.

Cassie, a spontaneous and free-spirited individual, has recently discovered her true sexuality and is struggling to come to terms with it. She secretly begins exploring her attraction towards women while keeping it hidden from Mackenzie.

On the other hand, Mackenzie is in a long-term relationship with her boyfriend, Evan. However, she starts to question her feelings towards him and realizes that their relationship isn't as fulfilling as it once was. Mackenzie contemplates the idea of breaking up with Evan but doesn't know how to approach the situation.

As Cassie and Mackenzie navigate their personal journeys, their friendship becomes increasingly strained. Cassie feels insecure about revealing her true self to Mackenzie, fearing that it may change their dynamic. Similarly, Mackenzie is preoccupied with her own relationship issues and fails to notice the changes in Cassie. The lack of open communication between the two best friends leads to misunderstandings and growing distance.

Throughout the film, Cassie and Mackenzie struggle to find a balance between their personal growth and maintaining their friendship. They both make mistakes and face challenges as they attempt to overcome their individual obstacles. Eventually, their paths intersect, and they are forced to confront the growing distance between them.

In an emotional climax, Cassie decides to come out to Mackenzie, revealing her true feelings and her fear of losing her best friend. Mackenzie, realizing how self-absorbed she has been, deeply regrets not being there for Cassie and offers her sincere support.

The film ultimately explores the themes of acceptance, self-discovery, and forgiveness within the context of a changing friendship. While the strains of growing up and dealing with newfound sexuality and relationship issues threaten to pull them apart, Cassie and Mackenzie learn the importance of communication, empathy, and unconditional love in overcoming obstacles and preserving their bond.
