In the movie "Things Are Tough All Over," Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong star as themselves, working as low-level employees at a hotel in Chicago. One day, they accidentally witness a drug deal gone wrong between two rival gangs, resulting in one of the gang members accidentally shooting another.
Fearing for their lives, Cheech and Chong decide to flee Chicago and head to Las Vegas. Coincidentally, at the same time, Mr. Slyman (an Arab businessman) and Prince Habib (a Middle Eastern prince) are in need of a reliable driver to transport a large amount of cash secretly across the country. To maintain a low profile, the duo decides to hire Cheech and Chong, who they believe are trustworthy and won't attract any unwanted attention.
Unbeknownst to our main characters, the five million dollars they are about to transport is dirty money, and both gangs involved in the earlier drug deal are trying to track them down. With the mobsters hot on their trail and the shady Arabs keeping a close eye on them, Cheech and Chong embark on a hilarious and chaotic road trip.
During their journey, various comedic mishaps occur, including Cheech and Chong accidentally getting involved in a police chase, encountering a group of eccentric hitchhikers, and falling into a series of absurd situations. Additionally, the duo's signature stoner behavior and constant misunderstandings add to the comedic elements of the film.
As Cheech and Chong continue their journey, they slowly uncover the truth about the money they are transporting. Realizing they have become unwitting accomplices in a dangerous scheme, they must find a way to outsmart both the gang members and their Arab employers while surviving the chaotic adventure.
In a classic Cheech and Chong fashion, "Things Are Tough All Over" delivers a blend of outrageous comedy, memorable characters, and unexpected turns of events. The movie explores themes of friendship, trust, and the absurdity of life. Along the way, Cheech and Chong learn valuable lessons about responsibility and the consequences of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
