In the movie "Man Down," Gabriel Drummer (played by Shia LaBeouf) is a haunted Afghanistan war veteran returning home to a post-apocalyptic America. The film is told through different timelines, interweaving Gabriel's past and present, as he attempts to come to terms with his actions during the war while desperately searching for his family.

In the present, Gabriel roams through a desolate and almost unrecognizable landscape, filled with barren ruins and a lack of civilization. He is on a mission to find his wife, Natalie (played by Kate Mara), and their son, Jonathan (played by Charlie Shotwell). Alongside Gabriel, his best friend Devin Roberts (played by Jai Courtney) helps him navigate this harsh world.

As Gabriel searches for his family, he encounters various survivors, each with their own stories of loss and struggle. Through these encounters, the film shines a light on the effects of war, PTSD, and the breakdown of society. Gabriel's journey becomes a metaphor for the shattered and fragmented psyche of a war veteran trying to find purpose and redemption in a world that has seemingly fallen apart.

Meanwhile, the movie shifts back and forth in time to Gabriel's experiences during the war in Afghanistan. These flashbacks explore Gabriel's relationship with his commanding officer, Captain Peyton (played by Gary Oldman), and fellow soldier, Charles (played by Clifton Collins Jr.). These memories from Afghanistan gradually reveal the traumatic events that Gabriel has been desperately trying to leave behind.

As the film progresses, the lines between the post-apocalyptic present and Gabriel's traumatic past blur, creating a deeply emotional and immersive experience. Ultimately, the movie delves into themes of isolation, resilience, and the toll that war takes on one's mental state. Gabriel's journey becomes a quest for hope and the opportunity to reconcile with his past, find his family, and rebuild his shattered life.
