Badlapur is a Hindi crime thriller film directed by Sriram Raghavan. After his wife Misha and young son Robin are brutally killed during a bank robbery, Raghav "Raghu" Purohit (played by Varun Dhawan), a mild-mannered young man, is shattered and consumed by a desire for revenge.

The police capture Liak Mohammed Khan (played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui), one of the robbers, who reveals the identity of the other culprits involved in the crime—Harman "Harsh" Singha (played by Vinay Pathak) and his girlfriend Jhimli (played by Huma Qureshi). Raghu decides to take matters into his own hands rather than waiting for the slow wheels of justice to turn.

Raghu confronts Jhimli and offers her money to reveal Harsh's whereabouts. She confesses that she hasn't seen him in a long time. Raghu later learns that Jhimli is pregnant with Harsh's child and decides to spare her life.

Raghu locates Harsh, who is now a successful businessman, and manipulates him into unknowingly giving him a lead against Liak. In a moment of anger and frustration, Raghu kills Liak's mother, seeking vengeance for his own loss.

As the police close in on Raghu, he confesses his crimes to Inspector Govind Mishra (played by Kumud Mishra) and is sentenced to 20 years in prison. However, during the trial, Raghu learns that Harsh was not actually involved in the bank robbery that resulted in his family's death.

Years pass, and Raghu is released on parole. Seeking redemption, he visits Jhimli, who is now raising her and Harsh's daughter. Over time, Raghu develops a bond with the young girl, sensing his own lost family in her.

As Raghu tries to leave his past behind, he discovers the shocking truth that it was actually a case of mistaken identity—Raghu's own son had been killed accidentally during the robbery. Overwhelmed by guilt, Raghu decides to confront and avenge the true culprits.

In an intense climax, Raghu tracks down the actual murderer, Shobhit Desai (played by Divya Dutta), who was one of the bank employees during the robbery. Raghu seeks justice, but in an unexpected twist, he chooses to spare her life, realizing that revenge will never truly bring him peace.

Badlapur explores themes of grief, revenge, and the consequences of one's actions. It delves into the complex emotions of its characters and showcases a web of guilt and redemption, blurring the lines between right and wrong.
