In the movie Solaris, the troubled psychologist is named Dr. Kris Kelvin. He arrives at an isolated research station orbiting the mysterious planet Solaris. The planet is covered entirely by a vast ocean that exhibits unusual properties and seems to possess a conscious intelligence.

Upon his arrival, Kelvin discovers that the crew members of the research station have become disturbed and emotionally unstable. They are plagued by haunting visions of their loved ones from their past who have appeared on the station. These "visitors" are physical manifestations of their memories, seemingly brought to life by the planet Solaris.

As the story unfolds, Kelvin also encounters a replica of his deceased wife, Hari, who committed suicide years ago. Despite knowing that Hari is not real, Kelvin finds himself drawn to her and struggles to come to terms with his own guilt and buried emotions. He becomes increasingly entangled in the psychological and surreal environment of Solaris.

As Kelvin delves deeper into the mysteries of Solaris, he tries to understand the nature of the planet and its ability to materialize human memories. He conducts experiments, studies the behavior of the crew, and documents the incredible phenomenon that is affecting them.

Kelvin's personal journey becomes intertwined with the exploration of the planet's consciousness. He grapples with the ethical implications of Solaris' power and questions the nature of his own reality. The line between what is real and what is an illusion becomes blurred as Kelvin becomes consumed by his own past regrets and desires.

Throughout the film, Solaris challenges the characters' perceptions of reality, memory, and identity. It explores profound philosophical questions about the human condition, love, and the limits of knowledge. As Kelvin continues his investigation, he must confront both the physical manifestations of his past and his own emotional turmoil, leading to a haunting and thought-provoking climax that leaves him forever changed.
