Joe Bell, a hardworking and devoted father living in a small town, loves his son Jadin more than anything in the world. However, when Jadin comes out as gay in high school, he becomes a target of relentless bullying, pushing him into a deep depression. Determined to support his son and raise awareness about the harmful effects of bullying, Joe makes a heartfelt decision to embark on a solo cross-country walk.

Leaving behind his job and responsibilities, Joe begins his emotional journey from Oregon towards New York City. Carrying a backpack and a "Stop Bullying" sign, he faces both physical and emotional challenges along the way. As he walks through small towns and meets various individuals, Joe shares his story and spreads awareness about the devastating consequences of bullying, particularly towards LGBTQ+ teenagers.

Throughout the movie, Joe flashes back to pivotal moments in Jadin's life. These flashbacks further illustrate the strong bond between father and son, showcasing Joe's unconditional love and unwavering support for Jadin. From attending Jadin's school activities to trying to comfort him during his darkest moments, Joe's flashbacks provide deeper context and understanding of their relationship.

As Joe's journey progresses, he encounters both supportive and resistant individuals. Some locals are inspired by Joe's cause, joining him on parts of his walk or hosting him for a night. Others, however, remain skeptical or dismissive, highlighting the prevailing ignorance and reluctance to address the issue of bullying.

Along the way, Joe also crosses paths with other individuals affected by bullying or struggling with their own LGBTQ+ identities. These encounters help Joe form a network of allies and supporters who share his determination to combat bullying and protect vulnerable individuals like Jadin.

Joe's walk, though physically demanding, becomes a transformative experience for him. It allows him to reflect on his own role in Jadin's struggles and the importance of acceptance and understanding. As he continues his trek, Joe confronts his own biases, recognizing his previous ignorance regarding the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals.

Ultimately, after walking thousands of miles, Joe reaches his destination in New York City. There, he attends an anti-bullying event and shares his poignant story, hoping to inspire change and prevent others from experiencing the pain his son endured. In doing so, he honors Jadin's memory, leaving a lasting impact on countless lives nationwide as an advocate against bullying and a symbol of love and acceptance.
