In the movie Nativity!, Mr. Maddens, played by Martin Freeman, is a teacher who is still heartbroken from being dumped by his girlfriend, played by Ashley Jensen, five years ago. The girlfriend suddenly left for Los Angeles without any explanation. Mr. Maddens is not particularly enthusiastic about Christmas and finds it difficult to embrace the holiday cheer.
