In Peninsula, the story starts four years after the initial outbreak of a zombie virus in South Korea, as depicted in the first film, Train to Busan. The infection has spread throughout the entire country, causing major devastation and turning it into a post-apocalyptic wasteland. The government and most of the population have abandoned the peninsula, leaving behind a few survivors who struggle to stay alive among the hordes of infected zombies.

The movie mainly follows a former soldier named Jung-seok, who managed to escape the initial outbreak and is now living as a refugee in Hong Kong. He lost his family during the chaos in South Korea, which fills him with guilt and despair. One day, he is approached by a group of smugglers who propose a dangerous mission for him. They want him to return to the quarantined peninsula to retrieve a truck full of money, worth millions of dollars, which was left behind when the outbreak hit.

Reluctantly accepting the offer, Jung-seok, along with his team, including his brother-in-law Chul-min, heads back to the desolate and zombie-infested land. Once they arrive, they quickly realize that surviving is not their only concern. They encounter various factions that have formed amidst the ruins, engaging in brutal and deadly battles over resources and power. One of the most prominent and threatening groups is a paramilitary organization led by a cold-hearted gangster, Captain Seo and his ruthless henchman Sergeant Hwang.

During their mission, Jung-seok and his team uncover a glimmer of hope when they encounter a group of survivors led by a resourceful young woman named Min-jung. They have managed to establish a safe haven, where they live under constant threat but strive to maintain a semblance of humanity. Together, they come up with a plan to escape the peninsula and survive another day, but their path is obstructed by both zombies and the ruthless human factions.

As the story progresses, tensions rise, alliances are tested, and the characters must confront their own past traumas and fight for their lives and future against both zombies and other survivors. Peninsula explores themes of survival, redemption, and the lengths people will go to in order to protect their loved ones.
