Island of Desperate Survival

In the movie "Cold Skin," a young man named Friend (later known as Gruner) arrives by boat at a remote and desolate island in the early 20th century. He plans to work as a weather observer and log keeper in order to seek solitude and inner healing. However, as soon as he sets foot on the island, he realizes that it is inhabited by mysterious and terrifying creatures known as the "Froglodytes."

Friend takes shelter in a lighthouse, which is already occupied by an eccentric and alcoholic Irishman named Gruner, who has been living on the island for years. Initially, Gruner is hostile towards Friend, but as the story progresses, they form a reluctant alliance due to their shared threat of the Froglodytes.

Every night, the Froglodytes attack the lighthouse, attempting to breach its defenses. Friend and Gruner engage in fierce battles against the amphibious creatures, using various ingenious tactics to survive. As the nights pass, Friend tries to understand the reason for the ongoing battle between humans and Froglodytes.

Through a series of flashbacks, it is revealed that Gruner had arrived on the island many years ago as a member of a previous weather observation team. At that time, the Froglodytes showed signs of intelligence, attempting to communicate and establish a peaceful coexistence. However, after facing betrayal and the death of his fellow companions at the hands of the hostile Froglodytes, Gruner became convinced that they could never be trusted.

Gruner's fear and anger lead him to take a vengeful approach, hunting and killing Froglodytes whenever possible. Friend, on the other hand, feels compassion towards the creatures and attempts to communicate with them. Among the Froglodytes, Friend discovers and befriends a mute female creature whom he names Aneris. This connection soon becomes a source of conflict between Gruner and Friend.

As their battles with the Froglodytes intensify, Friend starts to question the true nature of the creatures. He uncovers evidence indicating that the Froglodytes may not be the savage monsters Gruner has made them out to be. As he delves deeper into their society, Friend forms a precarious bond with Aneris, leading to a realization that peaceful coexistence might indeed be possible.

Friend decides to make a bold move to broker peace between the humans and the Froglodytes. However, this action sets off a chain of events that culminate in a violent and devastating climax. The lines between good and evil blur, and Friend, Gruner, the Froglodytes, and Aneris must each face their own demons and make choices that will determine the fate of both civilizations hanging in the balance.
