Drama   United States of America

In the movie "Burden," the story revolves around a man named Mike, who is a recovering alcoholic. Half a decade ago, when he was still in the depths of his addiction, Mike and his brother were involved in a tragic drunk driving accident that took the life of a man named Ben.

Now, clean and trying to rebuild his life, Mike unexpectedly rekindles a relationship with Ben's ex-girlfriend, Sarah. Sarah never forgave Mike for his role in Ben's death, and their reunion is met with mixed emotions. Mike's guilt and remorse over the accident are still very much present, and he understands the pain he caused Sarah.

As Mike and Sarah spend more time together, they begin to confront the emotions that tie them together - grief, anger, forgiveness, and ultimately, love. Sarah is torn between her lingering anger and the newfound connection she feels with Mike. Meanwhile, Mike is determined to make amends for his past, not only to Sarah but also to himself.

As they navigate their tumultuous relationship, Mike's brother, Jake, resurfaces. Jake remains unapologetic and consumed by resentment, which adds further tension to Mike's progress in reconciling with Sarah and his own self-forgiveness. The past and present collide, forcing all of them to confront their demons and make difficult choices about forgiveness, redemption, and the possibility of healing.

Throughout the film, Mike finds solace in a local support group for recovering alcoholics, where he gains strength from the stories and experiences of others who have faced similar struggles. The characters are complex and flawed, allowing the audience to witness the challenges and growth faced by each individual as they grapple with their past actions and choices.

"Burden" is a powerful and emotionally-driven movie that explores themes of guilt, forgiveness, redemption, and personal growth. It delves into the complexities of relationships strained by tragedy and the difficult journey of self-forgiveness for past mistakes.
