One day, when Claire's babysitter fails to show up, she is left with no choice but to leave Elsa in the care of Antoine for a long weekend. This unexpected situation brings Antoine face to face with the challenges and responsibilities of being a parent. Initially hesitant and inexperienced, Antoine struggles to connect with Elsa, who is a precocious and curious five-year-old.

As the father-daughter duo spends time together, they embark on a small adventure exploring the city of Brussels. Throughout their journey, Antoine gradually rediscovers his paternal instincts and begins to bond with Elsa. Guided by her innocent and childlike perspective, Antoine is compelled to reassess his priorities and confront his own fears and shortcomings.

Simultaneously, Claire, who still cares deeply for Elsa, wrestles with her decision of leaving her daughter with Antoine. She follows her instincts as a mother and learns to trust her daughter's relationship with her estranged father, which leads her to reevaluate her own choices in life.

"The Elephant and the Butterfly" offers a heartfelt exploration of the complexities of parenting, as both Antoine and Claire confront their own limitations, insecurities, and desires. The film portrays the delicate balance between the responsibilities of adulthood and the joys and challenges of nurturing a meaningful relationship with a child.
