Love, Rosie is a romantic comedy-drama that follows the lives of Rosie Dunne and Alex Stewart, who have been best friends since they were five years old. The story begins with Rosie and Alex attending the same primary school in Ireland and instantly forming a deep connection.

As they grow older, Rosie and Alex face various challenges and personal achievements together. However, everything changes when Rosie attends a party and ends up sleeping with Alex's promiscuous foster brother, Greg. Soon after, Rosie finds out she is pregnant with Greg's child and decides to keep the baby, naming her Katie.

Despite their plans to attend college together in Boston, Rosie's pregnancy forces her to stay in Ireland. Alex decides to follow his dream of becoming a doctor in Boston, leading the two friends to be separated geographically.

Over the next few years, Rosie and Alex maintain their friendship through letters and occasional visits. Both of their lives take unexpected turns, including failed marriages, career changes, and new relationships. However, they continue to cherish their deep connection, often wondering if they are meant to be more than just friends.

As Rosie's life becomes more complicated with raising Katie on her own, she faces numerous challenges as a single mother. Along the way, she finds support in her best friend, Ruby, and eventually starts a relationship with Greg, hoping to provide Katie with a stable family life.

Meanwhile, Alex falls in love with a successful woman named Sally and decides to propose to her. However, on the day of the proposal, he receives a letter from Rosie confessing her love for him. This revelation causes him to reconsider his feelings and makes him question if he should pursue a life with Rosie instead.

The story unfolds with Rosie and Alex's lives intersecting at various points, often missing opportunities for a romantic relationship due to their own insecurities and timing. However, no matter what challenges they face or where life takes them, they always find their way back to each other.

In the end, after years of missed chances, Rosie and Alex finally admit their true feelings and decide to give their romantic relationship a chance. The movie concludes with Rosie and Alex embracing their love, realizing that true love can transcend time, distance, and missed opportunities.
