Drama   Germany,Poland

In the aftermath of World War II, Nelly Lenz, a concentration-camp survivor, undergoes extensive facial reconstruction surgery due to severe injuries. Despite being unrecognizable to others, Nelly remains determined to search for her husband, Johnny, who she believes might have betrayed her to the Nazis.

While wandering through the ravaged city of Berlin, Nelly encounters Lene, her close friend and fellow survivor who supports her emotionally and financially. Lene urges Nelly to leave Germany and start a new life in Palestine, but Nelly's obsession to find Johnny prevents her from considering this option.

Nelly eventually discovers Johnny, who now works as a nightclub owner and barely recognizes his own wife due to her altered appearance. In an attempt to understand the truth, Nelly introduces herself as Esther and asks Johnny for help to claim her family's inheritance.

Suspecting that Esther might be Nelly, Johnny concocts a plan to have her impersonate his deceased wife and collect the inheritance. As Esther reluctantly goes along with this plan, she seeks to expose Johnny's betrayal once she can gather enough evidence.

Throughout their interactions, Nelly realizes that Johnny is no longer the man she once loved, as he seems cold and distant. Meanwhile, Nelly struggles to reconstruct her own identity and adapt to the new postwar reality, all while attempting to uncover the truth about her husband's actions.

As Nelly inches closer to uncovering Johnny's betrayal, tensions rise, and her fragile emotional state begins to unravel. The film ultimately explores themes of identity, guilt, and the lasting impact of the Holocaust on its survivors, as Nelly fights to reclaim her lost life and seek justice for the past.
