In The Wedding Date, Kat Ellis, played by Debra Messing, is a single woman who is desperate to avoid the embarrassment and pity she would face at her sister's wedding. She realizes that her ex-fiancé Jeffrey (Jeremy Sheffield) will also be in attendance as the best man, which only adds to her anxiety.

Determined to prove that she has moved on, Kat decides to hire a male escort named Nick Mercer, portrayed by Dermot Mulroney, to accompany her to the wedding. Nick agrees to the job, but as they spend more time together, they develop a genuine connection and start to enjoy each other's company.

As Kat and Nick attend the wedding events, they face various obstacles and encounters that challenge their fake relationship. Kat's ex-fiancé Jeffrey, who is still attracted to her, becomes suspicious of Nick's true intentions. Additionally, Kat's overbearing mother and judgmental older sister complicate matters, constantly questioning her decision to bring an escort to such an important family event.

Amidst all the chaos, Kat and Nick's feelings for each other intensify. However, Nick's job as an escort hangs over them, and Kat wonders if his affection for her is genuine or just part of the act. Simultaneously, Kat begins to question her own motivations for hiring an escort, realizing that her desire to make Jeffrey jealous might not be the healthiest way to move on.

As the wedding day approaches, Kat must confront her true feelings and decide if she is willing to take a chance on love with Nick or revert back to her old patterns. In a heartfelt climax, Kat and Nick declare their love for each other and decide to pursue a genuine relationship, setting aside their doubts and reservations.

The Wedding Date explores themes of self-discovery, love, and the unpredictability of life. It showcases the journey of two individuals finding love unexpectedly and learning to embrace vulnerability in the process.
