Max and Leo come up with a plan to oversell shares in a Broadway musical and pocket the extra money when the show inevitably flops. They find the perfect script for a surefire failure, "Springtime for Hitler," written by a Nazi sympathizer named Franz Liebkind. They hire the flamboyant and untalented director Roger De Bris and his equally untalented assistant, Carmen Ghia, to direct and choreograph the show.

To ensure the play's failure, Max and Leo cast a wildly inappropriate lead actor, a surfer dude named Lorenzo St. DuBois, also known as L.S.D. But to their horror, "Springtime for Hitler" becomes a hit due to its unintentional hilarity.

In a last-ditch effort to salvage their scheme, Max and Leo attempt to sabotage the show's finale by dressing as Hitler and Nazi officers and storming the stage. However, their plan backfires when the audience mistakes their performance for part of the show and erupts into applause.

In the end, Max and Leo are arrested for their fraudulent activities, but the unexpectedly successful production allows them to pay back their investors and starts their careers anew as successful Broadway producers.
