Something Like Summer is a coming-of-age drama film based on the novel of the same name by Jay Bell. The story revolves around Ben Bentley, a talented and artistic high school student who falls in love with Tim Wyman, the popular and athletic jock at their school.

During their senior year, Ben and Tim begin a secret relationship, hidden from their classmates and families. However, Tim is reluctant to fully embrace their love, as he fears the consequences it may have on his reputation and social status. Despite this, their love affair continues, and they share many happy moments together.

However, after graduation, their paths diverge. While Ben pursues a career in music and starts living his authentic life as an openly gay man, Tim decides to conform to societal expectations and enters a heterosexual relationship. This creates a rift between them, causing their relationship to turn into bitterness and resentment.

Over time, Ben becomes a successful musician and finds love again with Jace, a kind-hearted and caring man. Meanwhile, Tim struggles with the consequences of his decision and realizes that he made a mistake in letting go of his true love, Ben.

As they both navigate through their individual lives, Ben and Tim's paths cross once again. This time, they attempt to salvage a friendship, but their complicated history and lingering feelings make it difficult for them to fully reconnect. They go through various ups and downs, trying to understand each other and reconcile their past.

Something Like Summer explores themes of love, friendship, coming out, acceptance, and the bittersweet journey of two individuals who were once inseparable, yet forced to grow apart due to circumstances. It delves into the complexities of human emotions and the impact of choices made in youth on one's life journey.
